Today's Photo of the Day is a throwback to the SCTA's Bonneville Speedweek in 2010. This is the 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Competition Coupe of Donnie Stringfellow II and Jim Kirk. During this run the car got out of shape at 270 miles an hour and was severely damaged. Jim was driving at the time and was taken to hospital for observation. I believe this car is still under reconstruction with the intention of returning it to racing at some stage.

Today's Photo of the Day is one of the hundreds of hot rods that descend upon the Wendover Nugget casino each night of SpeedWeek at the nearby Bonneville Salt Flats. Every night after the racing winds up, many of the spectators and entrants head back in to town for the night, and for many of them, that means hanging out in the carpark of the Nugget with a beer and a few mates.

Today's Photo of the Day is Shane Weston, in the Weston Racing Top Alcohol Dragster, competing in the Perth Motorplex's Top Comp class. This shot was taken at the Perth Motorplex's Night of Fire event in December 2013, as Shane warmed the tyres before his second qualifying pass of the night, during which he would record a time of 5.718 seconds at 245.23mph on this pass to top qualify for the meeting.

Today's Photo of the Day is Craig Lowndes at Barbagallo Raceway in 2012. It seemed fitting, as Craig has today announced his retirement from V8 Supercars after a huge career that kicked off back in 1991 in a Formula Ford, and just three years later, a drive at the 1994 Sandown 500 with the Holden Racing Team. For a while there, it seemed like Craig would finish his career at HRT, at least until he shocked the motorsport world by signing with Gibson Motorsport, who also made a switch to run Ford Falcons in the Supercar Championship. Craig would drive Fords for a number of years, until Triple Eight Motorsport, who he was driving for at the time, switched to running Holden Commodores. Today's shot is Craig in one of those Triple Eight Commodores, sponsored by Vodafone at the time.

Today's photo of the day is this mesmerising flame shot from Motorvation 28. Flame shots can be tricky to expose correctly, as they often blow out the highlights. However, in the middle of the day, in full sun, you can get some incredible detail out of them.
